Why do I need a permit?

For most of us, our home is our most important investment.  When making home improvements, protect the safety and value of your home and family by getting the necessary permits and using licensed contractors and craftsmen.  State and local laws require that permits be obtained for certain projects.  To find out if you need a permit, please contact the City of Lafayette at 503-864-2451.

Where can I obtain permits?

Structural, plumbing and mechanical permits are available at the Lafayette City Hall, or you may print them from this website.  Electrical permits are issued through Yamhill County Building.  Structural, plumbing and mechanical permits must be submitted to the City of Lafayette for approval.

How do I get an inspection?

The City of Lafayette contracts with the City of Newberg for all structural, plumbing and mechanical in-progress inspections.  You may contact them at 503-554-7714 or on their website at www.ci.newberg.or.us to request an inspection.  Inspections must be requested at least 24 hours prior to inspection date/time.

Final inspections must be requested through the City of Lafayette.  When you are ready for a final inspection, please contact City Hall at 503-864-2451.

Electrical permits and inspections are still processed by Yamhill County.
