Business Licenses and Door-to-Door Solicitors

All businesses within the City limits of Lafayette are required to have a business license issued by the City.  This includes home-based businesses, but the license itself does not allow a business to be run from your home.  For a home-based business to be allowed you must apply for and receive a Home Occupation Permit, which can be found here.  Business licenses last for one year and expire June 30 of each year.  The license fee is $10.00.

Door-to-door solicitation is not allowed in Lafayette without a permit.  Permits, which are free, can be obtained from City Hall, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  You will be given a lanyard to display your license and it must be visible whenever you are going door to door.  Soliciting without a permit is a class A infraction.
